The Bruces & Bluefin Tuna Fishing

North Lake Harbour. PEI.

Bluefin Tuna fishing in our family goes back to the late 60's off North Lake P.E.I. Tuna Capital of the World. Our Grandfather Clive Bruce fished actively until the age of 72. Our father David Bruce started the family charter business that we are presently reviving. We have been known as one of the largest fishing families in Eastern PEI with 20 relatives with their own operations.

David Bruce.

Our father, David Bruce started Bluefin Tuna chartering in the late 60's with his boat the Troy B II. He purchased a new boat in 1977, and this vessel was the first “Tuna Clipper”. A name that has been carried on in our family ever since and is known all around the world.

Return of the Tuna

The charter fishery thrived until the late 80's after a brief disappearance of Bluefin Tuna in our local waters. Bluefin Tuna Fishing at this time was not a viable fishery. In the past 25 years Bluefin Tuna have made a return to the waters off North Lake P.E.I in greater numbers than ever! Every season we have hand fed 1000 lbs plus Bluefin Tuna off the stern of our boats, touching these Giants as they fed is an amazing experience!.
